Rahmat, Mirna, Indri, Sabrina, dan Said adalah sedikit (atau malah banyak) dari transpuan yang memilih pekerjaan-pekerjaan “biasa” di luar salon dan penata rias—ruang dan profesi yang lazimnya ditekuni transpuan karena menyediakan ruang aman. “Ini adalah sesuai pilihan saya. Sesuai kenyamanan saya,” kata Jenifer Imanuela, fotografer serial ini menirukan komentar para subyek fotonya saat ditanya mengapa memilih profesi-profesi di luar salon ini.
Jenifer Imanuela baru pertama kali belajar fotografi dalam lokakarya ini. Misi utamanya adalah untuk bercerita tentang kesetaraan. Jenifer terpilih menjadi Duta HIV/AIDS di kalangan transgender tahun 2013, lantas bergabung dengan organisasi Binthe Pelangi Gorontalo.
Rahmat, Mirna, Indri, Sabrina, and Said are a few (or perhaps many) trans women who choose “ordinary jobs” – outside the typical salon or make up artist, the space and profession considered ‘safe’ for trans women. “This is what I choose, this is what I like to do,” says Jenifer Imanuela, the photographer of this series, echoing comments from her photo subjects when they are asked why they choose this profession.
This is the first time for Jenifer Imanuela to learn photography in a workshop. Her mission is to tell stories about equality. Jenifer was selected as the HIV/AIDS Ambassador in transgender community in 2013 and part of the organisation Binthe Pelangi Gorontalo.
